It is therefore crucial that you are happy at work because if you are not happy at work that means that majority of your time you are unhappy. How can we ensure we are happy at the workplace? START YOUR DAY RIGHT
The most important time of the day to most people is the morning. In most cases, it is believed that how we spend our mornings reveals how we will spend the entire day. So, it is best we wake up ready to take on the day. If we wake up sluggishly in a bad mood and go to work hungry and angry the day will most likely go wrong. On the other hand, if you get up in the morning happy and excited with a positive attitude, your day will very likely start on a good note and continue that way. It may help to sleep early rather than stay up too late especially if you don’t have anything serious to do. It is good to start your day right.
GET TO WORK SOME MINUTES EARLIER
It is important that you get to work some few minutes before your resumption time to be able to settle down before you start your task for the day. When you rush to work and rush into your task for the day, it will affect your input for that day. Your chances of having a great day and feeling happy at work are minimized if you start your day hurriedly. You will also struggle to catch up with all your task if you get to work late. It’s best that you leave your house earlier than you usually would, to be able to get to work early.
LEAVE YOUR PERSONAL ISSUES AT HOME
Coming to work with lots of baggage, a weary load, personal issues or problems will definitely affect your mood at work. You cannot really feel happy at work when you have a lot of things you are worried about. It’s best for you to try to push your personal issues aside when heading for work. So, you can feel happy at work without being bugged down by all the personal issues. Do your work happily. Decide that whatever personal issues you have has to wait till you are done with work. Except the issues are very important. If they are not, push them aside and enjoy the workplace.
DRESS WELL
Dressing well and looking very neat and good when going to work indicates you are ready to have a good day at work. It is usually said that you will be addressed the way you are dressed. Your neat, smart and good dressing will most likely inspire people around. They will most likely treat you courteously and it will help you feel happy and excited at work.
HAVE POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH YOUR COWORKERS AND BOSSES
Having a positive relationship with your bosses and the people you are working with can have a great effect on how happy you are at work. Be lively with them, greet them when you get to work, have conversations and share jokes with them. When you do all these, your energy level will grow, and you will feel happy and be more connected to your co-workers at the workplace.
WORK ON YOUR TASK AND COMPLETE THEM WITHOUT DELAY
When you work on a task and you can complete it without wasting time, there is a sense of accomplishment it brings. The sense of accomplishment makes you fill fulfilled and happy at work.

We all have clients and customers at our place of work. It is usually great if you are kind, pleasant and respectful towards them. Help them as much as you can. When we do, our customers are pleased with us and that makes us happy. The customers sometimes make you
feel happier especially when you are adding value to them and putting smiles on their faces.
STRETCH OUT AND TAKE BREAKS
It’s important that you stretch out and take a break from work from time to time. This will help you not feel too cramped up and the relief will make you happier. A few minutes away from whatever task you are doing goes a long way. Take a walk, rest, read something, talk to someone or just find something to do for a few minutes.
BE MORE PHYSICALLY ACTIVE.
It will be good to be more active physically, so you don’t have a feeling of being stuck to your desk. Here are some suggested things you can do to be more physically active or to get some exercise done at work.
- You can stretch your leg by getting up and walking to a co-worker’s office to get needed information instead of calling on the phone to get the information.
- Go outside to get lunch.
- Use a standing desk once in a while.
- Use the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Get up and walk around during break time.
You will feel more invigorated and happier at work when you are physically active and it will also help boost your health.
STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVE CO-WORKERS
One of the best things to do for yourself at work is to avoid negative colleagues. Do everything you can to avoid co-workers who grumble about personal or work-related issues. They have a negative aura around them and if you hang with these co-workers, they will rub off on you, you will be dragged down and this will affect you and eventually make the workplace unhappy for you. If you hang around colleagues who complain all the time about having too much work to do, at some point in time you will begin to find different things wrong with your job and you will start complaining too.
It is best to hang around people who have a positive, cheerful and very optimistic approach to their work.
It is important not to allow co-workers to make you feel dissatisfied and unhappy at work.
To be happy at work it is also important to avoid people who gossip. Ensure you stay away from office drama and gossip. Discuss and talk about positive things that make you happy.
As an employee, it is very crucial that we be in total control of our lives. We must try as much as possible not to allow circumstances around us to determine our joy and happiness.
Happiness is a choice. We should intentionally choose to be happy every day, no matter the circumstances. Research tells us that when people feel happier, they are more productive, motivated, resilient, and nicer to be around. They are actually more successful when happy.
